The Seattle-based global coffee retailer plans a May 2019 opening of a new location at 2851 S. Claiborne Avenue.
South Claiborne Avenue is the highest trafficked corridor in Orleans Parish that connects Uptown to Downtown New Orleans.
The new location will be situated on an outparcel of the University Retail Center, a 60,000+ square foot shopping center, fronting S. Claiborne Avenue and bordered by Toledano Street and Washington Avenue.
University Retail was purchased and redeveloped by local real estate developers, G. Paul Dorsey Jr. and G. Paul Dorsey, III in 2006 following Hurricane Katrina. The redevelopment paired a renovation of the façade and the addition of new national tenants including: Sav-a-Lot, Dollar General, Citi Trends, City Gear, and It’s Fashion Metro.
The Starbucks, which is now under construction, will be located on the east side (Washington Ave) of the shopping center, where a portion of the shopping center was demolished to make room for the Starbuck’s drive-thru.
The Dorsey’s welcomed the new Starbucks, “We are very pleased to add Starbucks to our tenant mix and believe they will be very successful in this location which is an under served area for premium coffees.”
